The WS2812 (often referred to as a "NeoPixel") has become the standard for addressable LED projects. The integrated chip allows you to set the brightness for each of the red green and blue channels to one of 256 different levels (8-bit color depth). This results in 16 777 216 (256³) possible color combinations allowing you to create stunning dynamic and complex lighting effects.
